Five Little Pigs – Agatha Christie
This is a classic “who done it” style Agatha Christie mystery. This story starts with a girl appointing Hercule Poirot to investigate her father’s murder. But it is a closed case. And the case was fairly simple. All the evidence led to the conclusion that the girl’s mother, Caroline Crale, poisoned her philandering husband, a brilliant painter.
Caroline was quickly convicted and sentenced to life in prison. But sixteen years later, the daughter receives a posthumous letter in which her mother assures her that she did not kill her husband.
This confession does not ease the daughter; rather, she needs to know who and why someone killed her father.
She urges Poirot to reopen the case. Poirot has to rely on people’s almost faded memories about the case as he starts to investigate the five people that were at the Crale’s place during that tragic event.
With Poirot’s astonishing understanding of the human psyche, he discovers the shocking truth about the murder.
This story has plot twists you can never see coming. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you guessing. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
